In the City

This morning I woke up at 8am and felt really bored. The past few days have kept me busy and constantly on the go.

Thursday was my first day of temp work with the best friend. The company party was a lot of fun, stressful to set up at first being that we had only 30 minutes to physically set up the arena (thanks to some crazy art exhibit set there for most of the day) but once it was all set up things went smoothly. It was nice to also be able to have some time to catch up with Tracy and get to know some of her ridiculous, fun and wonderful co-workers. Their parties are always a sure hit.
Friday was also productive with delicious catered lunch, moving large pieces of furniture back to storage and writing info on 100+ index cards. The boss left before we did so I just hope that I completed the index cards task up to par and that I didn't make Tracy look bad for suggesting me as the Temp.

Overall good times working with Tracy and I really loved her co-workers too.

Japanese dinner with Tracy's friends from studying abroad in Japan was delicious and filled with fun company. Saturday slept in and went to Fort Greene Park conveniently a few blocks and a nice walk from Tracy's apt. That park is really beautiful and is probably going to look even more amazing in the spring/summer when the trees and flowers are in full bloom. Lunch was delicious and inexpensive for two people and consisted of cider donuts(appetizer), fuji apple & black currant apple juices, small block of homemade sharp cheese, and whole wheat foccacia with mushrooms. We had a fun time sitting at the monument, chatting, eating, learning the proper arms position one should have when running down steps, and people watching. Lunch was followed by manicures of intense colors, LUSH spa facials for two, getting ready, and Serendipity (finally got to try the frozen hot chocolate-yum!).

Then got to see Jeremy, which is always a plus. I feel like the more time we spend together the more I fall in love with him. I always forget how well we get along and how easily conversation is when we're together. I'm always so comfortable when he's around, like I never have a reason to feel like i'm being judged. It's really great. He's really wonderful.

And I get to do some tutoring today! I'm excited.

Happiness is just around the corner

This week is going to be a great one.

Good: babysitting Lily (that girl is just too adorable and makes me laugh non-stop), starting up volunteer work (yay! I got accepted to be a volunteer tutor for an afterschool program in New Bruns), Jeremy and I have been together for 53 months (as of Monday!), I'm going to be working with Tracy Thursday and Friday (YAY!! Getting paid to do things I do normally - aka party stuff and things I'm good at - data entry/filing since i'm a hurricane-fast typer and organized AND spending time with the best friend?! AWESOME!), completing more summer job apps & teacher certification program apps. Productivity seems to be my theme this week.

Bad: babysitting Lily (makes me want to have a child...or the ten that I wanted originally, lol), not getting to see Jeremy much (with busy schedules), summer job apps (I got a headache from looking through so many job opportunities!), and some of the requirements about teaching certification ( I'm really confused about whether or not there's some test I need to take before I get admitted - the PRAXIS II or I or something? anyone know anything about these tests? I emailed some of the counselors/advisors but have yet to receive information about it), my right big toe was swollen from Saturday - Monday and I was walking with a limp (at least it started feeling better post-medication & hours of icing it :( ).

And I'm excited to go to Jersey Gardens with Alyssa tomorrow and possible lunch date with Katie too! Yay! :)

I'm in a great mood this week and hope that it only gets better.

36 days 'til I leave for my family vacation in the Philippines ( I will be there April 29 - May 27!)

Loves and Hates

I've compiled a list of things I love and others I hate, but being that I don't hate anything maybe I should re-label this "Loves and STRONGLY Dislikes"...

1.) I LOVE my three best friends. Without them I do not know where I'd be right now and with them my happiness is at its peak. When we are apart we are still able to give each other the same amount of love and support that we share when we're together. They are there to share fun, amazing, and hilarious moments with, but also there to help me in any time of need. They are the few that I can cry my tears in front of and know that I won't be judged. They are the few that I can let out all my worries and thoughts to and give me great advice, feedback and hopeful thoughts. Many people always say that they have "the greatest friends in the world" and while that may be true, I know that I'm even more blessed because I have "the best" ones.

2.) I HATE feeling lonely even when surrounded by people. This hasn't happened much lately, but I think it's bad that it still happens. That feeling of being "invisible" or that no one around you can fully understand how you feel so you're on your own. I used to feel like this a few times in middle school and high school - walking down the hallways filled with hundreds of students but thinking how odd it was that I felt so alone.

3.) I LOVE being with Jeremy. For the most part our arguments/quarrels occur when we're apart and it's usually about us missing each other and wishing we were together. When you go from a relationship where you're used to seeing each other at least once a day it sucks to only see each other once a week. I'm just glad that our relationship is strong and we can both communicate our feelings to the other.

4.) I HATE not having decided what I ultimately want to do. I know lots of people change careers and we're all still young so "there's time". But with many friends busy in Grad programs or working full-time jobs, I feel inadequate and useless. I've been trying to stay positive and take time each day to think of all the good qualities I have, but it had been hard to do the past few months. Though, after talking to a few good friends, I am glad to say it's been easier to come up with things I like about myself...

5.) I LOVE little kids. Not in a pedophile type of way. But I love seeing little kids smile and I'm pretty sure their laughter can change lives. I've been spending time and babysitting my newest little cousin, Lillian a lot lately. She's 20 months old and is super adorable! I love that she's so curious about everything and though it may be a pain to have to follow her closely because of that curiosity, it's always so great to see her understand me when I explain what objects are. In addition, she's a really happy girl and always smiling and laughing. I think I'm fairly good at working with children too since they seem to be one of the few groups of people I have the patience for. I can't wait to have my own children someday...

6.) I LOVE warm weather. I spent a portion of the day helping my parents check out some awesome beach resorts in the Philippines and am getting more and more excited for this trip with them!! My parents decided they wanted to go visit a bunch of places in the Philippines that they've never been to/seen so I get to venture with them while we're there for about a month! So I'm looking forward to not only seeing cousins in Makati, Butuan & Agusan, but also spending a few days in Boracay, Cebu, Banawe, Baguio, and other places yet to be determined! I just wish I could go somewhere super warm NOW and not have to still be stuck with the winter cold. In the future I think I need to live somewhere near a beach.

7.) I LOVE hot tea and reading using candlelight. Two things that seem to really relax me.

8.) I LOVE board games, cards and puzzles. Whether it's a classic like Scrabble or a newbie like Cranium - I love it. Maybe I just like them because when you play these games you're usually with good company and sure to have good times.

Well, I'm sure I have plenty more LOVES and HATES, but it's almost 3am and I think I'm babysitting Lily again tomorrow so I should get some rest. I'm not really sure what the point of this entry was...if you're bored and want to leave a comment but have no idea what to write, fill this thing out for me. Aruba.Jamaica.Ooh I wanna take ya...

Bermuda?Bahamas? At this point I'd love to go to ANY of those warm, tropical places! The snow was pretty and I had fun playing in it with Justin and Lala yesterday, but it was NOT fun shoveling driveways/sidewalks/walkways...at all. And I'm really tired of cold weather in general. It's starting to be such a hassle to bundle up and get my boots on, even if I'm just going out for a few minutes.

I NEED to go somewhere sunny and warm. Someplace where I can get up in the morning, throw on a fun, bright sundress, admire my brightly painted toenails as I wear some flip flops, toss my hair into a messy bun, grab my bag (filled with sunblock, lip balm, and sunglasses) and run out the door. *sigh*

Does anyone want to take me on a vacation somewhere warm? I'd love you forever...

"You can only blame your problems on the world for so long...

...before it all becomes the same old song" - The (Shipped) Gold Standard, Fall Out Boy

I find it funny that I've been listening to this song on repeat as a form of therapy. I guess the lyrics remind me that complaining and blaming my problems on "the world" will not make things better. That ultimately it's up to me to "fix" things, and make my life better. I'm slowly starting to work towards fixing my life.

I'm also starting to appreciate the free time that I have now and the freedom in my schedule to do what I please when I want. Never again in my life, or at least the life I'm envisioning for myself - full time job, full time family with 2 - 4 kids - will I have this much freedom. I'm slightly hesitant to take on a full time job at the moment because my parents and I are planning to vacation in the Philippines for 3.5 weeks in May and most places will probably not hire me once I mention "oh btw, I'd like to take a month off". I know I should be putting jobs and employment as part of my top priorities, but at the same time I have not been to the Philippines in over 8 years, and once I start working who knows how many more years it will take me to visit there again? I'd really like to see my relatives there...

At the moment I'm leaning towards going back to school for a MA in elementary education/teacher certification and eventually teaching first, second or third grade. I know I've been all up in the air with what I'd like to do, but I feel like this goal is more attainable than nursing would have been. I'm thinking that since I want to go to the Philippines in May, I may just look for some volunteer positions to gain working experience with children and then some part-time jobs to help pay the bills/more work experience. Anyone know of any volunteer opps?

Anyway, it's past 2am and I hurt my back a little bit while I was shoveling the snow off of my driveway, walkway and sidewalk, so I should really get some rest. I'm really excited to see Pascale tomorrow though! (and for FFFCUP reunion/pow wow this weekend)

Leave me your thoughts.
